Introduction
It is proposed to establish a Gamini Fonseka Foundation shortly. The life, style and works of the late Mr.Gamini Fonseka needs no fresh introduction to the members present here nor to the people of this country. While the establishment of a Foundation is an absolute need to continue his vision as the legend in the film industry, it has also become vital to expedite it early to prevent the exploitation of his good name he safeguarded throughout his journey in life. Unscrupulous elements have from time to time exploited the value of Artistes who have served this nation with their outstanding talents. It is of paramount importance that we set up legal establishments of this nature to prevent the furtherance of such exploitation of our Artistes who have been national treasures and assets to this nation.
The late Gamini Fonseka as an Actor and politician is a person who contributed immensely towards humanity. His commitment to mankind was noteworthy. He believed in equality among all people. Mr.Fonseka used Art as a medium to serve all people alike. He was loved by all communities. The speeches and other contributions made by him as an Actor , Politician and a Person bear testimony to the fact he used Art as a medium to bring all people together. Mr.Fonseka ‘s exemplary talents included his ability to sketch, paint and design. He was a complete man in the medium of Arts. Therefore, in keeping with his philosophy to use Art as a medium to bring all people together with equality, the Foundation will focus much attention towards this aspect to pursue his vision. The Foundation will treat this vision of Mr.Fonseka as a priority matter to fulfill his much cherished dream.
The Gamini Fonseka Foundation will conduct its activities based on Discipline, Decorum, Dignity, Dedication and Devotion which were the hall marks of late Mr.Fonseka’s life. His commitment to upgrade the film industry and the life style of film stars and technicians in that field was unparalleled. He was the most innovative and best process quality provider to the film industry.
The proposed Foundation shall be of benefit to all those in the film industry while it collects and protects the works of the late Mr.Gamini Fonseka. The facilities envisaged in this draft will be of immense benefit to upgrade the industry for those who would dedicate themselves with commitment towards such cause. This is somewhat an uphill task that needs co-operation from all persons involved in the industry. Therefore, a true and worthy commitment would make it a reality before long. It is now an accepted fact that the downfall of this industry was mainly due to lack of facilities to train our people to the level of professionals.
We have briefly underlined the objectives of the proposed Gamini Fonseka Foundation for discussion and consideration. All views would be accommodated to make it more viable and realistic. To achieve such status team work and unlimited spirit is warranted with sincere commitment.
A team of officials to engage in this noble endeavour has been tentatively thought of with high caliber persons like Sir Arthur C.Clarke and Dr.Lester James Peiris as Patrons involving the industry while Mrs.Gamini Fonseka,the widow of the legendary film personality shall also be one of the Patrons.
Mr.Dammith Fonseka will outline the names that are thought to enter committees to work towards this project. Here again, decision shall only be made after discussion and consensus to select the correct team for the correct objective.
Objectives of the Foundation
To collect and restore the works of the late Gamini Fonseka during his 50 year contribution to the film industry- They include films, scripts, songs and poetry, press articles, electronic media videos, audio and video recordings of all recording contributions made by him in all fields he participated and still photographs Restoration work shall mainly be on his films and still photographs. This will need funds and Fund Raising Projects under the Foundation have to be discussed and decided as and when it becomes necessary. With regard to the preservation, protection and authority to the rights of the late Gamini Fonseka’s work, the final decision shall be made by the family members and this aspect is included in the constitution of the Foundation. If any issue arises with regard to the aforesaid areas, the Foundation shall take action and implement such action on behalf of the family members in concurrence with them. The establishment of the Foundation needs the following; a land on lease from the state. Finances for construction. A management to administer the Foundation. These key areas have to be discussed at length at future meetings for early action and implementation. The following areas of creativity shall be envisaged under the Foundation to upgrade the industry in order to reach professional standards- Acting, sense of appreciation,directing,producing,script writing,make-up,art direction,special effects, visual arts( painting sculpture) speech and drama,theatre, music and dance. The Technical aspects shall focus on cinematography, photography, lighting, audio, video, lab work and theory. The Foundation shall take responsibility to protect the rights and dignity of all artistes and technicians involved in this cause. Services extended by the Foundation shall include professional training, studio space for photography and equipment. It will also hire equipment such as 35 mm super 16 cameras, tracks, dollies, cranes, editing facilities that include Avid editing and linear editing. video film converters etc; Matters pertaining to an Auditorium, Gallery and a Lounge are areas that have to be discussed by the Trustees of the Foundation as activity proceeds towards construction.

Administration
The Public Trustee will be the custodial of the Foundation
The Patrons shall advise all committees working under the Foundation A Board of Trustees appointed among the membership in concurrence with the Patrons shall govern this Foundation The Foundation, set up for the cause of the film industry shall entertain co-operation and assistance from the state sector and private sector. However, no direct role may be offered to either of the two sectors with regard to the administration of the Foundation. A very high level of discipline should be maintained amongst the members of the Foundation when conducting affairs of the Foundation. The decision of the Board of Directors of the Foundation shall be final on all issues.
